From San José Airport (SJO) to Jaco

Most international groups fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José (SJO). Jaco is roughly a 1.5–2 hour drive from the airport, depending on traffic. A private transfer is the simplest way to make the trip: the driver meets the group at arrivals and takes everyone straight to the villa.

Why a private group transfer works best

• Everyone arrives together, so the trip starts at the same time for the whole group.
• No one has to drive after a long flight or navigate unfamiliar roads.
• Luggage, golf bags and surfboards travel with the group.
• The driver can make a stop on the way if the group needs one; ask when booking.

What to send when you request a transfer

To quote and plan a transfer, we need the flight numbers and arrival times for everyone, the total number of people, the amount of luggage (including any sports equipment) and the address of your villa. If flights land hours apart, ask whether two pickups or a short wait at the airport works better.

We do not publish vehicle sizes or transfer prices, because both depend on the group size and the date. Ask for a quote and we will confirm what is available for your arrival.

Getting around Jaco during your stay

On foot

If you stay at the Breakwater Point condos (BWP Penthouse, BWP 701, BWP 702, BWP 703), most of downtown Jaco, including restaurants, bars and the beach, is within walking distance. Casa Azul is also centrally located near downtown. Casa Amarillo is about a 15-minute walk or a 3-minute drive from the beach and downtown.

Golf carts

Golf carts are a popular way to get around. Rent Jaco Golf Carts in town, or Los Sueños golf carts inside the resort, where it is about a five-minute golf cart ride from VTB14 down to the marina docks.

Private drivers

Homes in Los Sueños (Casa Maverick, VTB14, Delmar) are a short drive north of Jaco, and Casa Marlin in Playa Hermosa is about 10 minutes by car from Jaco Beach. For these homes, a driver for nights out keeps the group together and means nobody drives after drinking.

Transport for nights out

Plan the ride home before the night starts. Agree on a pickup time and place with your driver, keep the driver’s number in the group chat, and make sure the whole group knows how they are getting back. Even when the villa is walkable, a ride at the end of a long night is worth having.

Day trips and activity transfers

Some tours include pickup from your villa and others meet you at their base, so check when you book each activity on our Jaco tours and activities page. For outings that do not include transport, or for a day trip further along the coast, ask us about a driver for the day.

Fishing charters leave from Los Sueños Marina, which is close to the Los Sueños homes and a short drive from downtown Jaco.

Should the group rent cars?

Rental cars give flexibility, but for a bachelor party they come with drawbacks: someone has to stay sober to drive, parking several cars at a villa can be difficult, and the drive from San José after a long flight is tiring. Most groups find a private transfer plus golf carts or drivers simpler. If you do rent a car, check the parking available at your home; several of our homes have parking on the premises.
