Bachelor Party in Costa Rica: A Step-by-Step Planning Checklist

Bachelor Party in Costa Rica: A Step-by-Step Planning Checklist

The best man usually ends up as the travel agent, accountant and tour guide. If you have been asked to organise a bachelor party in Costa Rica, this checklist breaks the job into steps, in the order you should do them, so nothing important is left until the last week.

It assumes you are basing the trip in Jaco on the Central Pacific coast, where Jaco Casa has its homes. If you are still choosing a destination, read our comparison of why groups choose Jaco first.

Step 1: Lock the Basics With the Groom

Before you look at a single house, agree on three things:

Think About the Season

The dry season, roughly December to April, is the busiest and most expensive time in Jaco. The green season, roughly May to November, is quieter and usually has more availability, with afternoon rain on many days. Our rainy season guide explains how to plan around it.

Step 2: Set a Per-Person Budget

Agree on a budget range before booking anything. Groups fall apart when the cost changes after people have committed.

The main costs are the villa, airport transport, food (a private chef or restaurants), activities and nightlife. Shared costs fall per person as the group gets bigger; per-person activities do not. Our Jaco bachelor party cost guide walks through each category. [CONFIRM: any sample per-person budget figures before adding them to this article]

Step 3: Book the Villa Early

The house is the headquarters, and the best large homes are often booked first in peak season.

Ask About House Rules Before You Pay

Rules about parties and visitors differ by home. VTB14's listing welcomes parties and events; please confirm with us for every other property. Read our rental FAQ and bachelor party rules.

Collect Deposits

Ask every guest to pay their share of the villa as soon as it is booked. A committed deposit is the best predictor of who actually comes.

Step 4: Plan Flights and Airport Transport

Most groups fly into San José International Airport (SJO). Jaco is roughly a 1.5 to 2 hour drive away. Collect everyone's flight details in one shared document. A private driver for the whole group is usually simpler than renting several cars, and we can arrange drivers if you send us arrival times. [CONFIRM: whether Liberia (LIR) arrivals can also be arranged]

Step 5: Choose Two or Three Headline Activities

Do not schedule every hour. Pick a few anchor activities and leave the rest flexible.

Morning slots are the most reliable for outdoor activities, especially in the green season.

Step 6: Sort Out Food

Feeding a large group three times a day is one of the hardest parts of the trip. You can cook, eat out or hire a private chef. Many groups use a chef for a few key meals, such as the arrival dinner and the recovery brunch, and eat out on other nights. Compare options in private chef vs restaurants for a Jaco bachelor party.

Step 7: Build a Simple Itinerary

Share a one-page plan with the group two weeks before departure. Include addresses, check-in time, activity times, what is prepaid and what each person pays on the day.

Step 8: Travel Documents and Safety
