Watch the surfers tackle the waves in Jaco
Travel south to the tranquil community of Pochotal, also known as Playa Hermosa, which has hosted two World Surfing Championships and is fervently referred to locally as Costa Rica’s surfing stadium. Once there, camp out on the beach or grab a drink at one of the popular coastal eateries like Backyard and watch the surfers risk their integrity to catch the perfect tube.

There is a driveway that leads to a number of different paths that is situated on the south side of Jaco Beach, directly across from the petrol station. For an exhilarating ascent in elevation and some incredible photo opportunities, head up and to the right. The track ends at a cute, tiny waterfall if you continue climbing and turning to the left. You can access another road with lovely Playa Hermosa views by going up and to the right. From the entrance, turn right, and you’ll see a few trailheads with stunning views of the jungle and rain forest. Bring water, food, and sunscreen; there is no charge.
